What happen when your Office 365 subscription expires

Lukas BeranLukas Beran

Very common question is what happen when my Office 365 subscription expires.

Office 365 is a service with annual fee. You can pay monthly or yearly. So it’s a common question what happen when I stop the payment. In Office 365 Home or Personal it’s simple. Users have three main advantages included in this service:

  1. Office application suite (Windows, Mac, iOS, Android)
  2. 1 TB OneDrive
  3. 60 Skype minutes

More information and price is available at Office 365 Home or Office 365 Personal.

Office applications

Office applications are deactivated. When you run the applications, you will see information that the subscription has expired and Office is deactivated. You will not be able to create new documents or edit documents. Office will be in read-only mode.

Data from OneDrive will NOT be deleted. It’s really often question. All data remains in the storage. But you will be swicthed back to free OneDrive with free available storage (5 GB for new users). If you have more data than is the free limit, you will not be able to upload new files or edit uploaded files, OneDrive will be also in read-only mode until you remove your data or buy more space.

After the expiration of your subscription you will have free Skype account with no free minutes available.

My primary focus is the security of identities, devices and data in the cloud using Microsoft services, technologies and tools.
